It can be easy to forget why we do this work, what with deadlines and doubts and all of the things we do in our own little writerly vacuums. The good news: All it takes is reading a book to a class of eager young readers to remember the why.

The rhythm of this adorable story is enchanting. My kids were glued to it. So am I, even after approximately three dozen readings. In many picture books, the art far outshines the writing, but here they are equal and fit partners. I love Dan Yaccarino's art--simple expressions of clear ideas. Amy Dyckman's words are just as pure and lovely. This is a book to own.
